Aspiring DJs are to grab their decks with the Australian finals for the 2008 World DJ Championship to be held in bars and clubs nationwide throughout July and August.

For the second consecutive year, TDK Life on Record will sponsor the grassroots competition held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth venues.

The national winner will represent Australia and compete for the title of World DJ Champion, taking home gold turntables and a status that can secure bookings at clubs and dance events the world over.

Imation marketing and communications manager for TDK Life on Record, Bree McKenzie, said the competition is the Australian Idol of the DJ industry.

“The World DJ Championships have become a major event in Australia — not only for the nation’s promising young DJs — but for anyone who enjoys hip-hop music and culture,” McKenzie said.

Australia’s winning finalist will travel to London to compete on a world stage.

The first event will be held 17 July, followed by Melbourne on 19 July, with events in Canberra, Brisbane and Perth in August.
