A prominent Melbourne bar has announced the release of their feisty new cocktail menu, which includes drinks such as the ‘2am Lockout’, a reference to the unpopular three-month trial lockout introduced in the Victorian capital earlier this year.
Led by owner and head bartender Matthew Bax, the Der Raum bar team has created a list that features cocktails dedicated to significant struggle moments throughout history.
Made from Famous Grouse Whisky, Italian Vermouth, Verjuice and rich aromatics, the ‘2am Lockout’ cocktail was “reated with the 1924 ‘Scoff Law’ cocktail in mind — a Harry’s bar invention named after US citizens who refused to abide by prohibition in the.
The menu also includes drinks such as the ‘Fuck the Subprime’, which is a “decadent salute to these times of trouble, inspired by a recovery drink post the great crash of 1929”, and the Poco Loco Tea Punch, a tribute to the plantation workers who worked on the sugar cane fields.
Der Raum has developed a reputation as a bar that uses old-school cocktail-making techniques and fresh juices without cordials or syrups.
