Cassegrain to Host 'Oysters in the Vines'

By Amy Looker

Cassegrain Wines will host the fifth annual Oysters in the Vines event this Sunday (24 January) at its Port Macquarie vineyard.

Held in conjunction with oyster growers from the Hastings region, the event is expected to draw a record crowd of wine and oyster lovers who will spend the day feasting on freshly shucked oysters expertly matched to Cassegrain wines.

The family-friendly event will also include a barbecue, alfresco menu in Cassegrain’s The Restaurant, and Koolkuna berry ice-cream for the kids.

Cassegrain’s winemaker, Steve Foye, will team up with local oyster growing identity, Mark Bulley, to put on a special wine and oyster education class that includes a tasting of oyster dishes matched to Cassegrain wines and copies of the recipes prepared in the session.

Chief winemaker and managing director of Cassegrain Wines, John Cassegrain, said the synergy between his winery and the local oyster growers was a natural fit.

“Oysters in the Vines is a highlight on our events calendar and is such a great way for us to kick off the new year.  The Hastings region produces some of Australia’s best oysters so it’s gratifying to be able to showcase them matched with our wines.”

Tickets to the event cost $5 per adult, with children under 18 receiving free entry. Oysters will be available at local co-op prices of $13 per dozen or $16 per dozen for dressed oysters. For more information visit the Cassegrain Wines website.
