ALIA Voting Opens Tomorrow

By Rebecca Harris

The 2010 Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA) will officially open tomorrow (July 1), when the new voting site goes live at midday.

Co-hosted by TorchMedia and Coca-Cola Amatil, ALIA aims to recognise leading groups, individuals and brands within the on-and off-premise categories that have excelled over the past 12 months.

Some of the most highly contested categories at the past 16 ALIAs have included Supplier of the Year, Best New Product and Bar of the Year.

To reflect the ever-changing industry, this year six new categories have been introduced – Best Cider, Sales Rep of the Year, Best Sports Bar, Best Gaming Venue, Brand Ambassador of the Year and Publican of the Year.

Once all votes have been accepted, the off-premise Liquor Awards and the on-premise Hotel, Bar & Club Awards categories will be submitted to respective panels of key industry figures who will decide the winners, to be announced at the official Awards ceremony on Wednesday, October 20.

More than 750 members of the trade are expected to attend the carnival-themed event to be held for the first time at The Big Top, Luna Park, Sydney.

The event will see a return of last year’s popular host Larry Emdur, along with food, fun and some surprise entertainment in what promises to be a night to remember.

As with last year, the initial off-premise voting data has been supplied by Nielsen, while accounting firm Ernst & Young will act as the official auditor of the event, and will verify all judging forms and winners.
