Barons Brewing MD Hits Back

By Andrew Starke

Newly appointed Barons Brewing director and MD, Adam Flohm, has moved to squash industry speculation that the brewer is on the verge of going under, saying the company will be around for a ‘long long time’.

Flohm would not be drawn on the circumstances that led to his appointment and that of fellow director Patrick Clarke or the fate of previous directors and founders Sean Neylon and Scott Garnett, saying only that is was ‘an interesting time to start’ in the role.

Barons Brewing Trading Company, one company under the Barons Brewing umbrella of companies, applied for voluntary administration in late June but Flohm told TheShout that he expects things to return to normal by the end of July.

“We are trading through this period and I can assure all our partners and suppliers that Barons Brewing will be around for a long, long time,” he said.

Flohm speculated that some in the industry may have confused voluntary administration with receivership or liquidation and not been aware that Barons Brewing is set-up to run through a number of companies.

Barons Brewing Trading Company is expected to come out of voluntary administration before August and the brewer aims to launch Kopparberg Pear Cider nationwide on August 1.

“Barons Brewing is thrilled to bring Kopparberg Pear Cider to our shores,” said Flohm. “Ciders are seeing massive growth in the marketplace and if Kopparberg’s overseas success is any indication, it will be a huge hit here in Australia.”

This is Kopparberg’s first major push into Australia, where it will be available through Dan Murphy’s, BWS and Woolworths Liquor.

Kopparberg's is the largest beer and cider brewery in the Bergslagen region of Sweden.

Kopparberg Pear Cider is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume and available in 500ml bottles and cartons of 20.

Kopparberg will be available nationally with a RRP of $5.99 per bottle and $59.99 per case.
