Australia’s pinot noir producers are dusting off their finest bottles ahead of an international 'tweet up' which will see the varietal go head-to-head with overseas producers via a virtual tasting on Twitter.
The Pinot Smackdown will take place on Thursday, August 18, between 7:30pm and 9pm AEST, with pinot from all over the world being tasted and taster’s comments being published on a live Twitter feed using the hashtag #pinotsmackdown.
Pinot noir from countries including Australia, New Zealand, America, France, Germany and Italy are expected to rate a mention on the Twitter feed, as pinot noir fans from around the world simultaneously tweet about the wine they are tasting.
Several venues in Australia will be hosting events to coincide with the Pinot Smackdown, including Coast Roof Top Bar and Restaurant in Sydney, Wine Experience in Brisbane and Lark Hill Winery in Canberra.
Wineries producing pinot noir are also being encouraged to promote the event.
