Australian rockers, AC/DC, have made an unlikely venture into the wine game, teaming up with Warburn Estate and Woolworths to release their own range of AC/DC branded wine.
With bottles unashamedly covered in AC/DC imagery, the names gracing the new range of wines takes its inspiration from some of AC/DC’s biggest hits, featuring the You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato, Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc, Back In Black Shiraz and Highway To Hell Cabernet Sauvignon.
Fruit for ‘AC/DC The Wine’ is sourced from the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and Marlborough in New Zealand, with the Riverina-based winery, Warburn Estate, tasked with the business of making the wine.
An exclusive national distribution deal has been signed with Woolworths, though the range (above) is set to roll out globally in coming months.
“We wanted to make sure that AC/DC’s hometown fan base could have easy access to their rock icons wines” said Steve Donohue, general manager – buying for the Woolworths Liquor Group.
“For us it was a no-brainer to make it available nationally, no one misses out. This is a world-wide phenomena and a first in the market place.”
AC/DC was formed in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.
The band has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and has more the 13 million fans following them on Facebook, with plenty of fans expected to start stocking their cellars with AC/DC The Wine.
AC/DC The Wine launches nationally tomorrow (Aug 18) and has an RRP of $16.99.
