A second Australian winemaker has adopted the innovative new Viiva screw-cap on its newly released sparkling wine, and more are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
Guala Closures' Viiva screw-cap was first employed by De Bortoli Wines earlier this year in a move that prompted empassioned debate on TheShout about the merits of traditional cork closures.
Now the Clare Valley's Taylors Wines has released its first ever sparkling wine – Taylors Estate Pinot Noir Chardonnay Brut Cuvee – under the Viiva screw-cap as well as the cork closure.
Guala Closures sales and marketing manager Simon Yudelich told TheShout that Taylors will shortly be followed by several other big wineries in adopting the Viiva closure.
He suggested that the Clare Valley company may have bottled a smaller percentage of the new wine under the new screw-cap to gauge reaction from the market.
"Choosing to have it released under both closures, meant we could still satisfy our customers who were looking for that traditional cork pop but also show our dedication to screw-cap and the ease it offers consumers and the hospitality industry," said Taylors Wines managing director Mitchell Taylor.
