Laundy Hotels will build a greenfields pub in the Lendlease development of Calderwood Valley in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.

Laundy Hotels has acquired a 4000sqm block of land in the new Calderwood Valley development by Lendlease. The acquisition is the second project announced by Laundy Hotels in as many weeks, after revealing that they would be rebuilding the Log Cabin Hotel in Penrith, which was destroyed by fire in 2012. Craig Laundy said the Calderwood Valley tavern project would be part of the creation of a new residential community.

“It’s part of a bigger strategic relationship with Lendlease, who really are in the business of building new suburbs, and new suburbs, need social infrastructure like shopping centres, schools and pubs.”

Laundy Hotels’ last greenfields pub project was The Marsden Brewhouse, a brewpub in Sydney’s north-west suburbs, which opened in April 2019.

The master plan for Calderwood Valley, includes roughly 1400 homes, and will eventually house 3500-4500 people.

Designs have begun for the pub which will include an F&B offering, sports bar and gaming. A highlight will be a large beer garden offering alongside the lake, which will include a children’s playground. The pub will form part of the development’s first stage of community infrastructure, alongside a small supermarket, specialty retail stores and a childcare centre.

“It’s early day, but I shared Lendlease’s vision for the long-term future of the site, and I think it’s  going to be a nice suburban tavern that will be well patronised, and a great resource for the local community,” stated Laundy.

The DA for the pub is set to be lodged with Shellharbour Council within the next few months, with the hopes that construction can begin on the venue at the beginning of 2021. If all goes accordingly, the venue is slated to open around July next year.

Laundy Hotels also operates nearby pub, Albion Park Hotel.
