The Advertiser has reported that bartender Vini Wang will face court next month for allegedly stealing $30,000 from the CBD bar where he worked, Hains & Co.

According to The Advertiser, five Adelaide detectives arrested Wang at his workplace on Thursday 22 February. Wang was charged with two counts of theft and was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in April.

The article reported that Wang had been stealing around $1000 a week from the business over several months.

Wang, a recent finalist in the Australian leg of the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition with his cocktail Aja, also placed third in the Woodford Reserve 2017 Australia Cocktail Competition and was one of the top-five Australian finalists in the 2017 Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge.

“They are a trusted employee, one that counts and balances the till in the office at the end of the night,” Hains & Co owner Marcus Motteram told The Advertiser. “Now I feel deflated, I feel angry.”

BARS&clubs has contacted Motteram for comment on the issue.

In a recent Facebook post, Motteram wrote: “It has been a really shit week.” He later highlighted the support he has received from industry peers and colleagues, saying: “The out pouring of support from the industry has been humbling. One awful experience, and then so much love to remind you that this is the best industry in the world to be a part of. Thank you all your support gives me goosebumps and tingles.”
