Perth's Universal Bar will once again be hosting another fun-filled cocktail competition on August 27 featuring some of the city's most talented bartenders.

Americano Bourborama follows from the success of Universal's other cocktail competitions – Blues your Daddy, Parlez vous Chartreuse and Mex-ology 101.

The rules for the contest are simple – each bartender must make two identical drinks in five minutes using at least 30ml of bourbon from the Coca Cola Amatil portfolio, while keeping the crowd entertained.

Competing on the night will be Joe Sinagra (Luxe Bar), Matt Scales (Sentinel Bar & Grill), Caitlyn Selkirk (The Boulevard), Lola Taylor (Deco at The Raffles Hotel), Kenny Soetomo (The Brisbane Hotel), Dimitri Rtshiladze (Mechanics’ Institute), Nicole Reid (The Classroom), Tim Sponberg (The Brisbane Hotel), Pat Carpenter (El Público), Travis Powell (Malt Supper Club), Lani Say (399 Bar), Tim Laferla (Mechanics’ Institute), Andres Rengifo (Universal Bar), Jay Costa (Fraser’s),William Holland (Frisk Small Bar) and Rummy 'Mitch' Lovebeard (Ezra Pound).

And judging their efforts will be former Must bar manager Zack Nelson, cocktail connoisseur Paul Loney and Gary Bird from Coca-Cola Amatil.

Competitors will be judged equally on the taste, appearance and presentation of their drinks, their cocktail making techniques and the uniqueness of their drinks, as well as their bourbon knowledge and the 'Yankiness' of their presentation – with the donning of costumes encouraged by the organisers.

There is a great selection of prizes up for grabs, with the winner taking home a sparkling gold plaque and a bottle of 1795 Jim Beam, while the runner up will get a selection of Jim beam products and third place will receive a bottle of Jim Beam signed by Fred Noe.

Universal Bar will also be serving up some tasty American cuisine on the night such as bourbon barbeque baby back ribs, southern fried chicken and chilli dogs with cheese onions.

As part of the evening, Five Bar's general manager Andrew McIntryre will be hosting a master class session for the trade starting from 6pm.
