Flair bartending is taking Sydney by storm, with the announcement that a Northern Beaches Hotel will be hosting a flair bartending comp next Sunday (July 12).

The Collaroy Beach Hotel’s decision to hold a competition comes on the back of the recent Bols Gods of Flair and Australian Bartending Guild (ABG) events.

Collaroy Beach Hotel’s special events and functions manager Louise Topalov said she saw the ABG competition held at The Beresford Hotel in Darlinghurst last month and thought that it was something the Northern Beaches was missing out on.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” she said. “It will be the first-ever Northern Beaches Cocktail Flairing Competition and we’ve already gotten a lot of support from sponsors like Absolut and the ABG. We’ve even got competitors coming from Perth and Gold Coast.”

From 2pm, bottles will be twisted, thrown and juggled, as competitors battle it out to win a trip to Singapore to compete in the Asia Pacific Bartender of the Year Competition.

“Tom Cruise and Brian Brown in the movie Cocktail were just beginners,” said Topalov. “These guys are ‘the real thing’.”
