Hendrick’s Gin yesterday (Apr 13) hosted the inaugural Australian Victorian Bartending Olympics.

Around fifty bartenders from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne gathered at a Twentieth Century estate in Melbourne to compete for the title of ‘Hendrick’s Olympiad Champions 2010’.

Hosts Lord and Lady Hendrick’s ensured the crowd was well catered for in between games such as the ‘Walking Martini Challenge’ and the ‘Cucumber Relay’, all of which drew attention to the unique style of Hendrick’s gin.

Made from traditional gin botanicals such as coriander and orris root, Hendrick’s’s point of difference is its addition of cucumber mash and rose petals which give it its unique taste.

Competitor and bartender Nielsen Braid, from Zeta bar in Sydney, said that it was one of the most fun days he had had.

“Hendrick’s gin is one of the most fun gins around and they definitely put on a good event,” he said. “It’s just a shame my team didn’t even make it to the bicycle relay finals.”

As part of a nationwide promotion, Lord and Lady Hendrick’s will now be touring bars across the country to raise awareness of Hendrick’s gin.
