With the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the hospitality industry closing bars across the nation and leading to 689,800 people already out of work and no doubt many more to lose their jobs, Spirits Platform has stepped in to offer a helping hand to some of our local bartenders who have recently lost their jobs by asking them to participate by creating simple cocktail video tutorials aimed at home consumption called ‘Home Five O’Clock-tails’.

The company’s brand ambassadors Mark Hickey, Danilo Migliorini, Andy Buntine, Luke Hanzlicek and Josh O’Brien will recruit 100 Australian bartenders from around the country that are currently out of work, and ask them to submit their cocktail tutorial videos to Spirits Platform. Bartenders will be paid $250 for their approved video submission, which will be shared and promoted on the company’s Simply Cocktails Facebook page and on the bartender’s personal social channels.

This initiative allows consumers, most of whom are home-bound to try their hand at making some of their favourite cocktails they would normally enjoy in a bar. “Home Five O’Clock-tails” will see 100 cocktail ‘how to’ videos posted every weekday at 5pm over 100 days.

Simply Cocktails Home Five O’Clock-tails will also feature a weekly Facebook Live masterclass with each of the Spirits Platform ambassadors making one of their signature cocktails, allowing consumers to follow along from home and ask questions as they go. Simulating an on-premise cocktail masterclass will offer consumers stuck at home something fun to do in isolation and enjoy with friends who also join the workshop from their kitchens.

The Simply Cocktails “Home Five O’Clock-tails” will also offer businesses a fun way to enjoy Friday drinks with their teams on a Friday evening with consumers able to create their own mixology masterpieces at home to sip on over a Zoom call or via House Party, (the new app taking the internet by storm) with the team, bringing the bar into their homes.

Spirits Platform National Brand Ambassador Mark Hickey commented: “What’s happening in Australia and around the world is something we’ve never seen before and it’s hit the hospitality industry hardest. We wanted to give something back to our bartender community during this hard time as well as giving consumers something fun to do in their homes. The “Home Five O’Clock-tails” will bring the ‘on premise’ experience into people’s homes so they can still replicate the cocktails from their favourite bars whilst self-isolating.”
