Sydney hotel group Merivale is yet to receive any legal correspondence from a former employee who claims he will sue the company over an incident in which he was allegedly strip-searched.

The former cashier at Establishment Bar, Danny Luu, will face court later this week over drugs charges laid following an incident in which he says he was detained at the venue and searched by Merivale boss Justin Hemmes and three bouncers.

Merivale spokesman Tim Allerton told TheShout the company has not yet received anything from Luu's lawyer, who told media outlets his client will sue the company for wrongful conduct including deprivation of liberty.

"It's difficult to comment at this time because he is in court this week facing drugs charges," Allerton said.

The cashier's lawyer, Leo Premutico, told TheShout his client will take Merivale to court "for sure" – just as soon as the criminal proceedings are complete.

Premutico said his client has yet to formulate a statement of claim for the planned Supreme Court civil action.
