Minimum wages to increase
A three per cent increase to the Australian national minimum wage will come into effect next Monday 1 July, following the Fair Work Commission’s (FWC) Annual Wage Review 2018-19.
As a result of the FWC’s decision, full-time employees earning minimum wage will receive either $19.49 per hour or $740.80 per week.
Retail Drinks Australia CEO Julie Ryan reminded all liquor retailers to ensure that their payment systems had been updated to reflect the increase in the minimum wage for all pay periods commencing on or after Monday 1 July.
“It is important for all liquor retailers to note that while the FWC’s changes to the minimum wage officially come into effect next Monday, the increased rate applies to the first pay period commencing on or after this date.
“Members should also consult our updated wage rate summary tables for the relevant hourly rates to be paid to full-time and part-time employees under the General Retail Industry Award 2010 from 1 July.”
