During the peak of Australia’s COVID-19 lockdown, when most of the country was isolating in their homes, there were a few big things that kept people occupied.

Rather than spend all their time baking sourdough or learning any other number of random skills, one group of whisky experts and friends decided to do something a bit different to add some fun into pandemic life.

The Whisky Roundtable is a weekly live streamed video series featuring the Oak Barrel’s Scott Fitzsimons, Speakeasy Group’s Alex Dahlenburg, SouthTrade’s Andy Milne and The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s Matt Bailey.

Every Wednesday evening the group stream themselves discussing all things whisky, with each person offering insights from different areas of the industry. Sometimes they’re joined by special guests from across the industry, but every time they offer excellent whisky banter, knowledge sharing and laughs.

It’s a great example of something positive that’s been built from a tough time for the industry, and an awesome virtual offering that hasn’t lost it’s shine or audience as the country slowly reopens. Plus, it’s unique approach from all corners of the industry means it appeals to consumers, the on-premise and the off-premise trade – win, win, win.

With that in mind, and seeing the ALIA-winning talent and businesses involved, both National Liquor News and Bars & Clubs wanted to hear more. We got in touch with the team to ask our burning questions, and not only did we get answers, we got what Fitzsimons described as “bonus content, double disk, DVD extra disc” level content.

In the video below, the team talk about everything from the inspiration and drive behind the series, to what they hope to deliver to viewers, to how many members of their family tune in. Check it out for yourself!
