Sydney’s trade is invited to sample what the wineries of the Adelaide Hills have to offer by attending a trade tasting and masterclasses event, hosted by winemakers in Surry Hills next week.

Taking place on 8 May at the new Winebar One in Surry Hills, the Hills Heist trade tasting will have around 70 wines on offer from more than 25 Adelaide Hills wineries with juice ranging from sparkling wine and Gruner Veltliner, to Shiraz and Pinot Noir.

The winemakers attending include Murdoch Hill’s Michael Downer, crowned the nation’s best emerging talent at the 2017 Young Gun of Wine awards, along with Andrew Hardy (Petaluma), Adam Wadewitz (Shaw + Smith) and Tim Knappstein (Riposte) among others.

Event host, wine writer and SA resident, Nick Ryan, said: “The Adelaide Hills is a 70 kilometre stretch with a million different angles, it’s all nooks and crannies. Stand in one spot and see a dozen aspects. It’s where old school and new school sit comfortably side by side. It’s where conventional wisdom is enhanced by elevated thinking.”

The event will also run three masterclasses from 3-5pm, places are limited and must be booked in advance by emailing wine@liquidideas.com.au.

The Masterclasses include:

  • G’Day Gruner (3 – 3.30pm)
  • Wild Things (3.40 – 4.10pm)
  • Origins (4.20 – 4.50pm)

The trade tasting takes place on Tuesday 8 May from 2-5pm, is free of charge to the trade and takes place at Winebar One, 119 Kippax St, Surry Hills. For those who can’t make the day session, there is a ticketed consumer event which will run from 6-9pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
