The Australian Liquor Stores Association has revealed its two finalists in the 2017 ALSA Young Liquor Retailer of the Year Award.

This year’s grand finalists are Shanais MarcusHogue – Store Manager, Dan Murphy’s Erina, NSW and Sharni Fenton – Retail Manager, Vantage 9/11 Bottleshops Hobart, Tasmania.

ALSA President Giuseppe Minissale said: “Both Grand Finalists made an exceptional impression on the judging panel and with their energetic and innovative approach to liquor retailing they demonstrated that they are worthy finalists in this ALSA award program.”

ALSA CEO Terry Mott said “ALSA is delighted that the Federal Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, will announce the winner at the ALSA – Australian Retail Drinks Conference Gala Dinner in the Australian War Memorial on Thursday August 17.”

This year’s winning prize includes a spot on the ALSA International Retail Liquor Study Tour, which is going to New York in February 2018. ALSA also said that the award will open many additional opportunities for the winner, including to be invited to be a panellist at a major ALSA event during 2018.

Mott also thanked each of this year’s applicants for the time, effort and enthusiasm that went into their submissions and finalists interviews, saying that “each of the young applicant should be very proud of their submissions.”

Mott added: “With the ongoing support of REST Industry Super, the award continues to encourage more young liquor retailers to be inspired to develop their careers in the retail liquor sector.

“The ALSA program is designed to stimulate and encourage bright young retail liquor staff to further their career opportunities in the retail liquor sector and it complements the professional development initiatives of ALSA’s on-line training programs available under ALSA-TRAIN and the retail liquor knowledgebase ALSA Retail Insights.”

This year’s Young Liquor Retailer of the Year, will take over from Rebecca Polley (pictured above), who won the award in 2016.
