Bass & Flinders Distillery to launch Winter Gin
Bass & Flinders Distillery is marking the beginning of winter with the release of a new Winter Gin, which will be released on the first day of the cold season, 1 June.
The Bass & Flinders Winter Gin combines an apple brandy and a triple-distilled grape-based gin. The botanicals include juniper with additional winter warmers in nutmeg, star anise, cinnamon, orange and native pepper berry.
Speaking about the release the distillery said: “The eau de vie is distilled from wine produced using Victorian grapes. This creates a smooth base spirit with additional flavour and viscous characteristics.
“The golden hue and apple flavours come from aged apple brandy, which is blended with the gin. The palate and aroma from oranges, apples and cinnamon are reminiscent of Christmas pudding and are enhanced with the addition and warming flavour of native pepper berries.”
Head Distiller, Holly Klintworth, added: “Our small scale, innovative approach provides us with a fantastic opportunity to be creative and produce products relevant to the current season.”
Described as being a gin best enjoyed “neat over ice, or with dry ginger ale and a slice of apple for a warming twist”, the distillery is marking World Gin Day with a variety of winter cocktails available at its Red Hill location on Saturday 9 June.
The Winter Gin is available on the distillery’s website until stocks last, retailing at $95 for a 500ml bottle.
