A new online learning platform has been launched by Champagne Bureau Australia, the Australian office representing the Comité Champagne in France.

The Massive Open Online Course for Champagne, or Champagne MOOC, has been developed for both industry and consumer education purposes. Created by a specialist education department at Comité Champagne, the course delivers the most up-to-date and accurate information about Champagne.

Australia is currently the seventh largest market for Champagne in the world, and The Champagne MOOC will be a positive educational tool for many Australians, especially those working in the hospitality industry.

John Noble, director of the Champagne Bureau Australia said: “We have a young and dynamic dining scene here in Australia. The Champagne-MOOC, which has been developed with all of the resources available to Comité Champagne, is a simple and easy way to understand how Champagne wines are made, will be a great asset to those working on the front line anywhere Champagne is sold.”

Already well known in Europe and the United States, the Champagne MOOC features a number of modules which can be accessed by trade and consumers alike, plus additional content for wine professionals looking for industry accreditation in Champagne wines is also available.

These premium modules have additional material and videos with advanced knowledge testing. Successful candidates who complete the professional course will receive a statement of completion and certificate from Comité Champagne.

  • The modules of the Champagne-MOOC include:
The History and Economy of Champagne: retraces the history of Champagne from its earliest days to the 21st century and the latest trends in production and wine making.
  • The Champagne making process: an in depth look at all of the stages of Champagne making and presented in a seasonal, year-round format focusing on the work in the vineyards through to the constant activity in the cellars.
  • The Champagne Terroir: Terroir is the main reason Champagne wines are so unique – discover the characteristics that set it apart from other wine regions in the world.
  • Diversity and Tasting: the different styles and cuvees of each Champagne mean that there are almost unlimited possibilities for tasting Champagne – this module offers suggestions on tasting and food pairing any style of Champagne.

The Champagne MOOC is available online 24/7 and can be completed in stages, on any device to allow for students to learn the material at their own pace. Registrations are now open at www.champagne-mooc.com.
