The thirst for luxury whisky releases continues with the unveiling of the new Chivas Regal The Icon.
Created as a blend of some of the rarest and oldest whiskies available to Chivas Regal, each 700mL bottle will retail for $4,699.
The work of Chivas Regal’s master blender Colin Scott, the “ultra-prestige” Scotch whisky is a blend of much sought after whiskies from more than 20 distilleries across Scotland, including some rare whiskies from distilleries that have long since closed their stills down.
The rarest malts in the blend come from Strathisla, the spiritual home of Chivas Regal, and the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands. To this has been added single malts from the distilleries of Longmorn and Glen Keith, among many others.
According to Chivas Regal, The Icon is a “bold, balanced and unforgettable blend” that has been developed with a certain calibre of whisky connoisseur in mind.
Each year, the master blender will produce a limited number of bottles, making it a collectors item for whisky fans.
The whisky itself is housed in a hand-blown crystal decanter from Dartington Crystal. The glass is finished with precision metalwork and adorned with a signature luckenbooth stopper – a traditional Celtic symbol of love.
The Icon described as “Chivas Regal at its very best”, there is reportedly rich notes of honey, vanilla and dark chocolate, balanced with subtle hazelnut influences from the cask, and a long finish in the “smooth Chivas house style”.
Colin Scott, Chivas Regal’s Master Blender, believes that the company has created an exquisite blended whisky.
“Perfectly smooth with an intense concentration of sumptuous flavours that develop into an exceptionally long, lingering finish,” he says. “I am proud to present this luxurious expression of the Chivas Regal house style.”
