CUB withdraws State of Origin posters
Carlton United Breweries (CUB) has withdrawn its posters depicting State of Origin players wearing jerseys with a Carlton Dry logo, after a court order settled a dispute with Lion.
Lion sought the legal action as its products, Tooheys New and XXXX are shirt sponsors of the New South Wales and Queensland teams respectively. Carlton Dry is the official beer of the series and CUB has been heavily promoting the product for the games.
Lion won the injunction which ordered CUB to withdraw the Carlton Dry posters by 6pm on Saturday, 23 June, with the brewer saying that it successfully met that deadline. The court order did not impact any other Carlton Dry promotional materials.
A CUB spokesperson told TheShout: “Carlton Dry has now successfully reissued to our customers the Carlton Dry State of Origin posters – this time without the Carlton Dry logo appearing on the image of the players’ shirts.”
“This has been a great State of Origin series for Carlton Dry and our promotion of the series as the official beer partner is going full steam ahead.”
Meanwhile a spokesperson for Lion told TheShout: “XXXX is proud to support the Maroons – a partnership now three decades long between two great Queensland icons. Tooheys New is also delighted to sponsor the 2018 series winner – the NSW Blues.
“We have always supported our clubs – the heart and soul of Rugby League.”
