NSW and Victorian TAB customers have wagered more than $1.57 billion in parimutuel betting across the 50 official days of the 2009 Spring Racing Carnival.

NSW TAB parimutuel turnover on all codes of racing from September 30 to November 18 was $839.59 million, up 6.3 per cent on last year.

The Victorian TAB’s parimutuel turnover reached $739.25 million, up 0.6 per cent.

NSW and Victorian TAB customers wagered more than $800 million in pari-mutuel betting on the nine feature days of the carnival alone.

An incredible 47.7 million transactions were processed by the NSW and Victorian TABs on Melbourne Cup day alone, up from 46 million in 2008. Transactions include bets placed, account deposits and withdrawals.

Tabcorp’s Wagering managing director, Robert Nason said Tabcorp was pleased to have provided the hundreds of thousands of customers with efficient service during the peak season.

“We have delivered our best Spring Racing Carnival operational performance on record, seamlessly processing tens of millions of transactions for the benefit of our customers and our racing industry partners,” he said.

“This is a considerable achievement when you take into account that no wagering operator in the world processes the number of transactions Tabcorp does over a prolonged, high volume period such as the Spring Racing Carnival.”
