IWSR reveals the world’s biggest wine brands

The IWSR has revealed the world’s top 100 still wine brands, with one Australian brand making it into the top 10.

The list puts French wine Castel Frères in the top spot for the second year in a row despite strong volume gains from other brands in the top five. Barefoot and Concha y Toro posted the strongest gains in the top ten, both increasing by more than one million nine-litre cases.

Chile’s Concha y Toro range (which includes Casillero del Diablo, Frontera, Sunrise, etc.) was the most notable mover in the top five. Altogether, it increased by over one million cases to reach the fourth spot, swapping places with Spain’s Félix Solís. The Chilean company’s biggest win came in its home market, with volume growth of almost 400,000 cases.

The only Australian wine to make the top 10, was Casella Family Brands’ Yellowtail, which sold over 11.1 million cases in 2016. Yellowtail saw a small amount of growth over the year, to retain the same tenth spot that it had in 2015. The wine’s leading market is the US and it remains significantly ahead of the next biggest Australian wine, Hardy’s.

TheShout obtained the top five Australian wine brands according to the IWSR, which put Yellowtail first, followed by Hardy’s with Lindemans being the third biggest Australian wine brand. The top five is rounded out by Jacobs Creek in fourth and McGuigans in fifth, the full details of the wines’ volumes can be seen in the list below.
