SouthTrade International has welcomed award-winning bartender Lee Potter Cavanagh to its team of Australian Craft Spirits Ambassadors.

Potter Cavanagh will be overseeing trade advocacy for Adelaide Hills Distillery and Starward Whisky for the NSW/ACT territory, joining Paul Slater who handles the VIC/TAS territory.

SouthTrade’s National On-Premise Manager Andy Wren said Potter Cavanagh is a very welcome addition to their fast-growing and high performing team.

“The role is crucial in supporting a category that we have seen triple in the last three years,” Wren said.

“With huge consumer demand for locally crafted spirits, it is imperative for us as a business to help arm the trade with the best New World Spirits and experienced Liquid Specialists. We are very proud of our Australian Craft Spirits portfolio and are delighted to see someone of Lee’s calibre join our already strong team.”

Potter Cavanagh is a well-known and respected name in the industry, and is very experienced with Australian spirits in the on-premise market. Having been a judge for the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards from 2016 – 2019, and winning awards for his drinks lists around the world, he champions local and native ingredients, most recently at his Bondi Beach bar.

“Already celebrating Australian spirits at my bar, Rosenbaum & Fuller, the opportunity to represent and celebrate these local brands was an opportunity I had to leap at,” Potter Cavanagh said.

“Adelaide Hills and Starward are two of the best distilleries in the country with both innovating and leading their category in their own ways, I relish the opportunity to spread the word and encourage people to drink local.”

The two brands Potter Cavanagh will be overseeing join Mr Black Coffee Liqueur and Cape Grim 666 Vodka in SouthTrade’s Australian Craft Spirit portfolio. The four brands in this portfolio represent over a third of the local craft spirits category.
