The winners of the 2020 Time Out Bar Awards for Sydney and Melbourne have been revealed at celebratory events in the cities over the past fortnight.
The awards are designed to celebrate the spaces and faces that are doing great work for the nightlife of Sydney and Melbourne. There were nine awards presented to the Melbourne bar community, and 11 for Sydney.
Celebrations for the Melbourne finalists and winners took place at General Assembly in South Wharf, with a 400-person-strong event hosted by podcasting duo, Annie and Bianka.
On the night, Romeo Lane took out the top prize for Bar of the Year, also scooping up Best Cocktail Bar too. Another double winner was Bar Liberty, who won Best Wine Bar and Bartender of the Year with their very own Nick Tesar.
The following week, the Sydney celebration packed 700 people into the Powerhouse Museum for an event hosted by comedian Matt Okine.
Sydney’s awards showcased a wide range of bar excellence that the city has to offer, but in the end PS40 came out victorious as Bar of the Year. Some great talent from the CBD was also recognised, with Lobo Plantation’s Mary White named as Bartender of the Year, and Stuart Knox from Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant receiving the Legend Award.
