Spain secures Patrón Perfectionists win

The finals of the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition have taken place at the Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, Mexico, with Spain’s Yeray Monforte coming out on top.

The competition saw semi-finals take place on 23 January, with the top six then going on to compete in the final, where Monforte came out on top, with his cocktail, Wind.

Australia’s Abby Wegener owner of Hades Hula House in South Australia represented in the semi-finals. While she was unable to make it into the top six, Wegener said she was delighted with the experience.

“Not only has the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition been a great experience personally, it has been a journey of discovery and learning, enabling me to further develop my craft. During the competition, I met some of the world’s most amazing bartenders and transformed into wonderful friendships.

“Wandering the endless agave fields, learning more about the processes that go in to every bottle of Patrón, we have all formed a lifetime bond, fixed by this money can’t buy experience.”

Monforte was joined in the final by Makina Labrecque from Proof Cocktail Bar in Canada, Mitushiro Nakamura from

The Peninsula, Japan, Peter Hannah from Walt Disney Bar in the US and Osca Olvera from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

The winning cocktail was a combination of Patrón Silver, Eternal youth mixture, Fino Wine, Patrón Reposado, thyme and beeswax for garnish.

“From submitting my entry to competing in front of the judges during the final, the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition has been an unforgettable experience.”

Recipe for the winning cocktai, Wind:

Ingredients:

  • 60ml Patrón Silver tequila
  • 60ml Eternal youth mixture (Mix 25 ml orange honey, 25 ml lemon juice, and 10 ml olive oil) 25ml Egg whites
  • 20ml Fino Wine
  • 1 Spray of Patrón Reposado macerated in bee pollen
  • 3 Pieces of fresh thyme and a strip of beeswax for garnish

Method:

  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill and combine
  • Double strain into a coupe glass
  • Garnish with thyme and beeswax
