Warrenmang Winery and Resort in Victoria’s Pyrenees wine region suffered a devastating fire last week, but the owners have expressed their determination to reopen the business.
The winery thanked local fire fighters for their work in making sure no-one was injured in the fire, but said that the fire means its restaurant and cellar door will be closed for the foreseeable future.
In a Facebook post, the winery said: “Emma Du, Managing Director has sadly informed the public that Warrenmang winery is unable to open the restaurant at the moment.
“On May 2 at 6.00 pm the restaurant was burnt out in the tragedy of an unexpected fire thought to have been caused by ‘BBQ activity’. Thanks to the effective work of local fire workers no one was injured in the fire.
“It is important that people are aware that the Cellar Door, Winery and Accommodation were not burnt and are all safe, ensuring that they are still making good wines. Emma praised the work of local fire fighters for their excellent work in containing the fire and averting a far greater tragedy.
“Emma also thanked locals and patrons of Warrenmang for their support and kind thoughts during this difficult time.
“Emma Du asked that patrons ‘accept my apologies as we will need to cancel all bookings and close the Cellar Door and Accommodation until we work out a new plan for the future’.
The winery was bought by new owners in 2017 and following extensive refurbishment re-opened to the public at the end of last year.
