Ferngrove Wines has released a 011 Malbec and a 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon as the first in a new range of limited release wines.

Established in 1998, the majority ownership of Ferngrove was last year bought by an international company, with many of the original owners including founder Murray Burton retaining their interests. Late last year Ferngrove appointed Angoves as their national distributor and its Australian management team have set about revitalising the brand.

The Limited Release duo is under the Frankland River label, which has been the long-standing backbone of the Ferngrove portfolio.

Ferngrove senior winemaker, Kim Horton said the new limited release range of wines will epitomise the best from this region.

“The wines are made exclusively with Ferngrove estate fruit to showcase Frankland River, one of the coolest wine producing regions of Western Australia. At the same time they will exemplify Ferngrove’s distinctive regional characteristics.”

"We are particularly excited about the Malbec; its colour is inky dark and displays all the distinct varietal features you come to expect from a cool climate Malbec – robust tannins, dark plum and spice with a lingering finish. The rich Cabernet Sauvignon also shows the real potential for Cabernet from this region."

Ferngrove sales and marketing manager, Andrew Blythe said: “The response to the range so far has been exciting, especially the Malbec which has attracted the attention of many retailers looking for alternatives to their range as well as on trade customers looking for affordable Malbec by the glass.”

The RRP for both the 2011 Malbec and 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is $20.00.

They are distributed nationally by Angoves and are available in bottle stores and on-premise outlets across Australia.
