Vanguard is proud to announce the addition of Boca Loca (“Crazy Lips”) cachaça to its portfolio.

Boca Loca uses an unusual fruit-based yeast which is derived from macerating and fermenting 17 tropical fruits.  Rhonda Follrath, owner of Boca Loca says:  “The distiller has to keep the yeast alive in between production runs so fruits are constantly added.  It is the combination of the fruits I think that combine to give it the vanilla, banana and caramel taste profiles.  The filters are also proprietary, charcoal based filters and really make the difference in clarity and disposing of the remaining impurities.”

After distillation, Boca Loca is slightly aged in Jequtiba barrels then filtered 12 times giving it a smooth, full bodied and fragrant finish.

Jeffrey Morgenthaler from Portland Oregon’s iconic bar Clyde Common states “If you haven’t experienced Boca Loca yet, I urge you to give it a try as I firmly feel it is the finest cachaça available on the market today. The spirit is light and fresh, and free from a lot of the oiliness and heavy smoke you’ll find in other – sometimes inferior – cachaças available out there. There is grassiness, big stone fruit, some white pepper and a very light honey finish.  Boca Loca is a beautiful product and it’s a pleasure to work with”.

James France from Vanguard commented:  “I have never heard of any other cachaça that you can drink straight and at room temperature.  It’s delicious yet well-priced.  We’re finding more and more interest in Central and South American spirits, so Boca Loca fits the bill perfectly.”

Boca Loca has won the following awards:

  • Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2007
  • Ministry of Rum Gold Medal 2008 and 2009
  • Best Value Cachaça by Beverage Tasting Institute 2007 and 2008
