Editor – Bars & Clubs
Sydney-based (Glebe)

The Intermedia Group has an outstanding opportunity for a talented editor to shape the direction of and generate the content for Bars & Clubs, the b2b publication serving Australia’s dynamic bars and clubs sector.

The role
As editor, you’ll be responsible for the editorial output of Bars & Clubs and act as an ambassador for the title, working closely with the publisher and sales team to help drive commercial growth. You will also contribute stories regularly to TheShout.com.au, Intermedia’s online liquor news site, and help implement a new digital strategy for Bars & Clubs.

The editor will play a key role in supporting Intermedia’s boutique drinks show Top Shelf, while looking to maximise the benefits the event offers Bars & Clubs and vice versa. Embracing opportunities to strengthen the Bars & Clubs brand, through events and online development, you will make a sizeable contribution to the commercial success of the title.

To be successful, you will already have solid editorial experience and understand how to create lively, engaging content for your readers. You will have an eye for detail and the nose for a great story. You will be highly organised and able to manage multiple projects; and since you’ll be dealing with a variety of stakeholders across several industries, you’ll need excellent interpersonal skills.

You duties and responsibilities will include:

Writing: responsibility for writing, coordinating and compiling content in print and digital titles following the style required for each medium and the corresponding audience. For B&C, this includes contributing at least three stories each week for TheShout. It will also include creating content and looking after the B&C/Top Shelf newsletters and Top Shelf website (newsletter stories to be hosted on the Top Shelf website). In terms of Bars & Clubs, there are currently six issues per year.

–       Top Shelf: contribute to the development of Top Shelf, acting as one of the ‘faces’ of the event, supporting the sales team and generating some promotional material and news stories around it.

–       Advertising Department: work with the representative or representatives of the advertising department to manage the delivery of any commercial content or advertorial within print and digital titles, as well as maintaining semi-regular contact with the top clients of the title(s).

Deadlines: meet the set deadlines for pre-production and publishing the print magazine and digital newsletters.

Commissioning: brief any internal or external writers ensuring they meet deadlines and budgetary guidelines.

Budgets: manage editorial budgets including freelance writers, stock photography, external photographers and general expenses, and ensure that all expenses relating to the title are essential to the development of the magazine.

Sub-Editing: proof read and sub-edit all editorial contributions from internal and external contributors prior to submitting to the art department  for typographical and grammatical errors to ensure accuracy at all times.

External Representative: act as the Company’s representative on the title at all times both internally and externally, and communicate any issues urgently to senior members of management.

Events: attend events relating to the print or digital titles both within work hours and, occasionally, after hours. Please ensure the Group Editor and/or Group Publisher are aware of these meetings where appropriate.

Public Speaking: represent the title and the Company by performing public speaking duties at conferences and events as required. Training can be provided upon request.

Production: manage all production related tasks including drafting and finalising flat plan or paginations, work flow, and corrections until publication.
