It’s all Greek to me! New Wines of Greece return
Book your place today to join the finest contingent of winemakers and educators from the world’s oldest growing region, Greece, who are returning to Australia for trade tastings and masterclasses in Sydney (20 June) and Melbourne (23 June).
Sydney and Melbourne trade will have the opportunity to meet with more than 20 wineries and try their wines, many of which are indigenous varietals, at the complimentary trade tastings held in each city. Sydney’s event will be on Monday, 20 June at Establishment Ballroom, and Melbourne on Thursday, 23 June at The Westin, with both running from 11am-5.30pm.
Alongside the trade tasting will be a series of four masterclasses (10am, 12pm, 2.30pm and 4pm) that will provide an in-depth look at the wines of Greece, led by wine educators, Yiannis Karakasis MW and Grigoris Michailos, who are travelling to Australia especially for these events. These were one of the favourite elements of the trip in 2015 for attendees.
10am: Wine Odyssey – Greece from North to South Part 1
This masterclass will introduce you to the key wine regions and grape varieties of Greece. From North to South and from East to West, this one-hour session will highlight the diverse terroirs, styles, authenticity and uniqueness of modern Greek wine.
12pm: For the love of Assyrtiko – from Santorini all over the world
When was the last time you fell in love with a grape variety? From the mineral-driven dry wines of Santorini to the noble sun-dried, luscious sweet Vinsanto wines, the expressive versions from mainland Greece and the promising Australian new entry, Assyrtiko, can easily blow your mind. Be prepared for a full-throttle masterclass!
2.30pm: The Rising Stars – Εmerging Greek varieties
With more than 300 indigenous grape varieties, Greece can offer excitement to all those eager to explore something new and different. This masterclass will unlock all the rising stars of Greek wine and focus on their potential success in the sophisticated Australian market.
4pm: A Wine Odyssey – Greece from North to South Part 2
A perfect pair with North to South Part 1 and a worthwhile session on its own, this masterclass will continue to explore key wine regions and grape varieties of Greece.
