Printhie has just released its 2009 Mountain Range Sauvignon Blanc, possibly the first 2009 vintage wine released from this cool climate region in the heart of NSW.

“We sold out of our 2008 vintage very quickly,” commented Co-owner and Vineyard Manager Ed Swift. “This inspired us to spend a great deal of time working with our existing growers and new growers on the slopes of Mount Canobolas, ensuring that that 2009 harvest was as good as the 2008. In fact, we believe that it’s the best vintage in over a decade from Orange."

“At a time when grape contracts are decreasing, it’s a good feeling to be out talking to growers about suppling more fruit. These new growers have given us more fruit plus greater complexity and flavour profiles in the wine due to the broader range of vineyards at different elevations. The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc has maintained its typical aromatic intensity and lively palate structure,” explained winemaker Drew Tuckwell.

The Orange region held true to its cool climate character with the hottest temperature all season only reaching 36oC, sufficient rainfall, snow after budburst and a cool ripening period. The natural acidities remained very high, often around 10g/L and phenolic maturity occurring at relatively low baumes (under 13.5oBe).

“The balance, the acid structure and the fruit purity are terrific. These are classical wines that have ripe flavour intensity without austerity nor over-ripeness”, added Drew Tuckwell.

“We won a lot of fans with the 2008 Printhie Sauvignon Blanc and anyone who enjoyed that wine will be very pleased with the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc,” comment Ed. The Printhie 2008 Mountain Range Sauvignon Blanc provides great value from a region that is quickly building an enviable reputation for this variety.

The 2009 Printhie Mountain Range Orange Region Sauvignon Blanc retails for $17.00
